World History Trends and Transformations

Course aim

To introduce students to the study of civilisations, empires and great powers, eras, inventions, wars and revolutions that have shaped world history.

Course content

Students will be introduced to the evolution of human history by focusing on the rise and fall of major civilisations, empires and great powers from ancient Mesopotamia to the present. Students will study the significance of the Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Persian, Greek, Roman and Chinese civilisations, the impact of the Renaissance, the Industrial Revolution, European Imperialism, the Enlightenment, the American, French and Russian Revolutions, the two world wars, and the Cold War. Students will also consider the significance of the Rise of China, and the impact of Globalisation, the Digital Age and Climate Change.
