Course aim

To develop appreciation of the component technologies, services and architecture of modern telecommunication networks, and to carry out simple performance analysis and design related to selected aspects of networks.

Course content

Foundations of Telecommunications Networks:
Network evolution, signaling protocols, circuit vs. packet-switched communication, and QoS basics.

Network Performance and Teletraffic Engineering:
Traffic modelling, performance metrics, resource allocation, and teletraffic tools.

Wireless Communication and Mobility:
Wireless generations (2G-6G), mobility management, handover techniques, and spectrum sharing.

Next-Generation Networks and Technologies:
5G technologies and beyond, and the vision for 6G.

Security, Privacy, and Future Directions:
Telecommunications security, encryption protocols, quantum communications, satellite networks, and green networking.
