To develop appreciation of the component technologies, services and architecture of modern telecommunication networks, and to carry out simple performance analysis and design related to selected aspects of networks.
Evolution of networks and services: PSTN, ISDN, Internet, mobile services, convergence.
Network overlays: Signalling, Transport.
Teletraffic: basic concepts and teletraffic models for circuit and packet switched networks.
Mobility: mobility models, impact of mobility on network services, technologies related to mobility.
Self-organisation and infrastructure-less networking.
Selected aspects of 5G networks.
