To introduce the concepts and components of transport and land use relationships from a whole-of-system perspective and discuss sustainable transportation case studies and environmental impacts of transport.
This course introduces a broad range of sustainable transportation and land use planning concepts to enable students to (i) understand how land use and transportation planning addresses traffic congestion and vehicular travel and best practices such as smart growth, new urbanism and Transit Oriented Development (TOD) (ii) become familiar with the exemplar sustainable transportation case studies (iii) become familiar with the environmental impacts of transport and (iv) measure bicycle and pedestrian level of service.
