Course aim

The aim of this course is to critically evaluate the role of health, fitness and physical activity within contemporary western society.

Course content

Biological and sociological aspects of health and physical activity; Paradigms of knowledge, debunking popular myths; Issues around participation in physical activity; Body in culture; Gender and physical activity; Social psychology of health and physical activity; Exercise addiction, eating disorders, negative addictions; Physical activity and the environment; Deviant behaviours; Subcultures around sport and physical activity; Abuse within health and physical activity; Qualitative and quantitative research methods.
