Surface Water Hydrology

Course aim

To continue to develop students’ in-depth understanding on how hydrologic principles can be applied to supplement decision support system for water and environmental management.

Course content

Module 1: Fundamentals of Surface Water Hydrology
1. Spatial and temporal distribution of hydro-meteorological data
2. Design rainfall and hydrological losses
3. Rainfall-Runoff process
4. Design Flood estimations

Module 2: Modelling Watershed Hydrology
1. Generalised watershed simulation models
2. Time-area models
3. Unit Hydrograph models
4. Introduction to SWMM modelling

Module 3: Floodplain Hydraulics
1. Floodplain management issues and mitigation strategies
2. Generalised open channel hydraulics models
3. Introduction to HEC-RAS Modelling
