This course will assist registered nurses working in cardiovascular health to extend their skills and knowledge of current practice and principles in the care and management of adults with acute cardiac conditions.
Anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system, pathophysiology, diagnosis (history, ECG and serum; cardiac enzymes) nursing management of acute coronary syndromes in the acute phase with an emphasis on pharmacological management, management of cardiac emergencies (cardiac arrest, arrhythmia, acute pulmonary oedema, cardiogenic shock), current interventional modalities for the management of acute coronary syndromes, and political, social and economic factors that impact upon the provision of acute cardiac services.
