Students will develop understanding of the structures and processes influencing ageing in contemporary society.
Theories of aging and their application within a nursing framework; population ageing - implications for funding, policy and service provision; images and attitudes to ageing; consumer directed care; disability, frailty, comorbidity, compressed morbidity, nursing support of older people with chronic and complex conditions; polypharmacy; models of care and the role of the nurse (transitional care, continuity of care/discharge planning, nursing role in rehabilitation/restorative/functional care/palliative care);end of life care; advance directives; intra/inter-professional collaboration and/trans disciplinary care; dementia; mental health; quality care for older people; innovative use of technology; health education.
