Course aim

Students will develop skills in designing rigorous quantitative research to inform knowledge, practice, management and policy in nursing, midwifery and health related fields

Course content

Quantitative research process and problem/hypothesis selection in nursing, midwifery and health care research; critical appraisal tools for evaluating methodological quality of quantitative research designs; quantitative research standards; descriptive study designs; experimental study designs (randomised controlled trials, clinical trials); quasi-experimental study designs; internal and external validity; descriptive statistics; inferential statistics; quantitative data analysis software; implication of quantitative research for evidence based nursing, midwifery and healthcare practice.
