This course aims to enable students to develop an understanding of the relationship between sport, coaching and community development and to build planning and leadership skills to engage with various practical applications of community development through sport.
Sport as a strategy for community development; the International Framework of community development through sport; relevance of sport-based community development for health and wellbeing in an Australian context; psychological and social aspects of participation in sport; social exclusion from sport; key sociological concepts underpinning community development through sport and relevance to health and well being – including social capital, social inclusion, social cohesion, cultural inclusion and cross-cultural efficacy; sport & social capital; basic community coaching skills; coaching life-skills through sport; planning, developing and delivering sport-based community development activities.
