The aim of this course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills in the design and analysis of manufacturing systems.
Covers all the major cutting-edge technologies of production automation and material handling, and how these technologies are used to construct modern manufacturing systems.
Introduction to manufacturing systems, organisation of manufacturing systems, facility layout, manufacturing information systems. Production concepts and manufacturing performance indicators. Manufacturing costs and work-in-progress costs. High volume production systems, analysis of flow lines, assembly systems and line balancing. Manufacturing system design, group technology, flexible manufacturing and cellular manufacturing systems. Concepts of computer integrated manufacturing.
