Course aim

  • Multivariable calculus and optimisation
  • Model and control multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) systems
Select and design appropriate controllers in both classical and modern (state-space) representations of
    systems to meet defined criteria
  • Apply model predictive control principles to complex real-world processes

Course content

Modelling and control of single input, single output (SISO) and multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) systems.
Intelligent controllers including: expert systems, multivariable feedback control, fuzzy logic and neural
networks. Analyse and design model predictive controllers for complex real-world processes. Practical
implementation considerations and limitations of control systems. Functions of more than one real variable. Partial derivatives and differentiability; linear partial differential equations. Optimisation with constraints.
