Course aim

This course will introduce students to the evolving discipline of human movement, exercise and sport science including its academic subdisciplines and how these relate to a range of professional roles, responsibilities and requirements.

Course content

Introduction and overview of the human movement, exercise and sport science academic subdisciplines including exercise physiology, sociology of physical activity; motor behavior; sport and exercise psychology and biomechanics; applications of subdisciplines' body of knowledge for professional roles and endeavors.

Preparing for lifelong learning; understanding self beliefs, learning styles and values; goal setting; time and project management skills; designing and implementing a personal development plan; conducting a personal SWOT analysis; interpersonal skills in personal and professional situations; professional and academic communication skills; cross-cultural communication; social responsibility and ethical practice.

Overview of health, fitness, exercise and sport related industries, professions and professional qualification schemes in Australia and internationally. Overview of responsibilities and requirements of professionals in health, physical activity, fitness, exercise, sport and clinical exercise physiology; commencing career development; career management skills.
