Theory of the Modern Interior

Course aim

To introduce students to a range of theories underpinning key ideas that produce a sense of the modern within a variety of interior settings.

Course content

Students will develop knowledge in visual and theoretical vocabularies of modern interior design from 1890 to 1968 including thinking and practice; historiography; craft-based design practice; individual designers; relationships between theory and practice, history and theory, design and cultural identity; International and Australian practitioners; international trends.
