The aim of this course is to introduce the fundamentals to analyse the vibrations of mechanical systems. It will develop skills in how to model and analyse single and multi-degree of freedom rectilinear and rotary systems, for free, forced and damped vibrations. The knowledge will be extrapolated to vibration analysis of continuous systems and application of vibration analysis to automatic control systems and acoustics.
Vibration analysis of single degree-of-freedom systems via Newton and energy method: Matrix vibration analysis of multi degree-of-freedom systems via Lagrange’s Equations and Newton method: Matrix vibration analysis of multi degree-of-freedom lumped-parameter rectilinear systems; Vibration analysis of torsional multi degree-of-freedom lumped-parameter systems via rectilinear modelling (Abhary’s Method); Vibration analysis of continuous systems.
