Course aim

To extend students’ critical understanding of the theories and debates surrounding assessment in languages education.

Course content

Students will critically analyse the construct of 'language ability' in second language assessment as understood in traditional and alternative assessment paradigms. They will then apply knowledge of ways of eliciting, judging and validating students' language learning and examining the impact and consequences of assessment practices through a range of investigative tasks.
