To develop advanced understandings of language and culture and their relationship in language teaching and learning.
Students will focus on social perspectives on language learning, in particular investigating conceptions of language and culture and the relationship between language and culture. They will explore the distinctive nature of specific languages and cultures including examining concepts of systematicity and variability and how these relate to language teaching and learning. Students will reflect on intercultural language teaching and learning and the crucial role of the language teacher as a mediator of language and culture.
