To promote intercultural awareness and critical pedagogical orientations through analysing ways that student diversity impacts on educational outcomes.
Students will develop understanding of education as a social institution by investigating the impact of social positioning, class, gender, and race/ethnicity on educational outcomes in order to evaluate the role of education in developing a healthy democracy. The course also supports students to build intercultural awareness through examining: systemic privilege and oppression; multiculturalism and cultural identity, race, racism, and anti-racist education; and global influences on education.
