Course aim

To develop students as educators who have a critical awareness of the impact of diversity and identity on school students experiences of, and engagement with, educational institutions.

Course content

Students will reflect on their own identities and subjectivities and consider the ways in which these might influence their pedagogies and practices as educators and how that might position learners from diverse cultural and social positions working with sociological and cultural theory, with a social justice orientation. Students will consolidate and extend understanding of diversity, learn to critique systemic responses which privilege and oppress, and develop pedagogical and practical strategies which will help prepare them for teaching in complex and diverse schooling contexts
