Course aim

To enable student-teachers to develop awareness of the social and community contexts of educational settings, the roles of teachers, and the links between schools, and other agencies in providing for children’s learning and welfare.

Course content

Students will undertake supervised placements and develop skills in social, economic, and political contexts of the educational service provision. Students will investigate community and interagency links, the teacher's role in schools, the organisational and legal requirements, policies and practice, and the centrality of relationships in learning and teaching. The students will reflect on the use of learning environment technologies, child protection and wellbeing issues, and teaching individuals and small groups. The students will also reflect on self as learners, and through observation and data analysis, report on own professional practice in the education setting.
