Course aim

The aim of this course is to enable students to demonstrate appropriate midwifery knowledge and skills in a simulated practice environment and to achieve the course objectives in alignment with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) Competency Standards for the Midwife through midwifery clinical placements.

Course content

Team work and collaboration; midwifery assessment of risk; midwifery management of medical complications and obstetric emergencies (pregnancy, intrapartum and postpartum); evidence based practice; ethics; communication and advocacy for the woman and her family during management of complications; the impact of technology during complex management of pregnancy and childbirth; evidence based, culturally competent and ethical practice; midwifery pharmacology; reflective midwifery practice.
