To enable students to demonstrate appropriate midwifery knowledge and skills in a clinical practice environment and to achieve the course objectives in alignment with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) National practice standards for the Midwife through midwifery clinical placements.
Neonatal pathophysiology; care of a deteriorating woman or neonate; evidence-based neonatal care; legal, ethical and culturally safe midwifery care; blood screening of the neonate; full examination of the neonate; pharmacology of frequently used medications in midwifery/neonatal settings; clinical skills and medication administration (e.g. maternal, sub-cut and oral medications; IM injections and neonatal IM injections); management of maternal epidural; interpretation of test results; technological skills required for care of neonates; enteral/tube feeding of the neonate; care of the neonate receiving oxygen therapy; care of the neonate; neonatal resuscitation via simulation; personal and professional development; portfolio; continuity of care; family-centred care; caring with kindness; midwifery competencies; professional boundaries.
