To enable students to demonstrate appropriate midwifery knowledge, attitude and skills in a clinical practice environment and to achieve the course objectives in alignment with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Midwife Standards for Practice through midwifery clinical placements.
Neonatal pathophysiology; care of a deteriorating woman or neonate; evidence-based practice; legal, ethical and culturally safe midwifery care; blood screening of the neonate; full examination of the neonate; pharmacology of frequently used medications for women and neonates; clinical skills and medication administration (e.g. maternal, sub-cut and oral medications; IM injections and neonatal IM injections, IV therapy); interpretation of test results; technological skills required for care of neonates; enteral/tube feeding of the neonate; care of the neonate receiving oxygen therapy; care of the neonate; neonatal resuscitation via simulation; personal and professional development; portfolio; continuity of care; family inclusive care; midwifery standards; professional boundaries; compassion and resilience; teamwork and communication, maternal and neonatal safety and quality.
