The aim of this course is to apply beginning level midwifery knowledge and skills in a simulated practice environment and to achieve the course objectives in alignment with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) Competency Standards for the Midwife through midwifery clinical placements.
Health assessment; antenatal assessment; health history; ongoing antenatal care; antenatal screening; midwifery care plan; family planning and contraception; antenatal education; abdominal palpation; fetal heart rate; vital signs; urinalysis; vaginal examination; phone assessment; early labour assessment; care in labour; pain relief in labour; midwifery care in labour; 2nd stage and birth; active management 3rd stage; physiological management 3rd stage; reception and care of the newborn; initial assessment of the newborn; APGAR score; resuscitation of the newborn; care of the mother postpartum; postnatal assessment; assisting with breastfeeding; infant feeding; safe sleeping; health promotion and education; neonatal injections; IM injection; Sub-cut injections; IV injections; neonatal screening; medicine calculations; documentation according to professional guidelines; reflective practice; facilitates decision making by women; women centred care; continuity of care; manual handling; infection control; occupational health and safety; midwifery care using primary health care principles; communication with women, families and other health team members; inter-professional collaboration; provision of midwifery care that is sensitive, evidence based, ethical, legal and women centred; reflective practice.
