To develop students' capacities to perform as competent pre-service teachers within educational settings and their communities.
Students will use curriculum frameworks for planning, programming, implementing, assessing, recording, reporting and evaluating learning programs for extended periods; managing the learning environment including effective use of learning time, student engagement, transitions and issues of collaboration, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation. Students will plan and teach contextually relevant curriculum; mindful of continuity of learning in relation to the class program and differentiation for identified cohorts and individual students. Students will develop knowledge of the centrality of teacher-student relationships to learning, building connections with parents/caregivers and emotional work of teaching, negotiating the complexity of the mentor-preservice teacher relationship. Students will build their understanding and experience of the teacher’s role as wider than the classroom; engaging with school-wide administrative and organisational requirements, and participating with colleagues in professional learning to improve practice.
