Course aim

The course aims to equip students with fundamental statistical concepts and techniques, and
develop students’ abilities to solve real-life problems using statistical approaches.

Course content

Statistical problem solving, scientific research methods, process improvement methods, planning a study,
identification of key variables, measurement, sampling, experimental design, variation, the normal model,
statistical process control, sampling distribution, mean and range charts, confidence intervals, one and two
sample hypothesis testing, regression modelling, forecasting, written and oral presentation of results, MINITAB
and EXCEL computing, use of statistical databases.
