Course aim

To consolidate students' critical understanding of English language and literature at an advanced level, with an emphasis on the influence of colonisation in International or World literature/s in English

Course content

Application of literary theory and insight into the other disciplinary/career-path interests of students. Students will consolidate and deepen their expertise in academic English and literature in the context of the historical, socio-political and cultural traditions of decolonial and World literature/s in English. Students will examine the influences of other literary traditions as these have shaped the development of decolonial literature/s in English.
Students explore the influence of colonisation in relation to literatures in English and how this has shaped subsequent postcolonial and decolonial literary texts in English, primarily in Australia and the Global South, but also in other places in which the effects of colonisation may be traced in literary texts. Emphasis will be placed on independent research, review, analysis, interpretation and the application of literary theory and insight into the other disciplinary/career-path interests of students.
