Course aim

  • For students to develop an appreciation of the characteristics of each of the Advanced Materials specialisations
  • For students to appreciate current research directions and developments in each Advanced Materials specialisation
  • To develop students’ skills to professionally present and communicate research at a conference, and to run a conference

Course content

Students will attend a series of lectures/presentations by representatives of various specialisations within materials science which will define, and develop an appreciation for current directions in, the Advanced Materials specializations of: Physical Materials (inc. Minerals, Nanomaterials, Optical Materials), Environmental Materials (inc. Water, Environmental Sustainability, Energy) and Health Materials (inc. Biomaterials, Molecular Chemistry/Pharmaceuticals, Medical & Health Physics). The course culminates in a student conference on Advanced Materials.
