To encourage students to think critically about key issues in rail safety and how they apply to a rail organisation.
Key responsibilities of a typical rail safety manager; issues concerning the delegation of authority and responsibility; monitoring and evaluating safety indicators; managing safety in contractors and sub-contractors; factors that lead drivers to pass a signal at danger; identifying hazards in yards and depots; identifying and managing threats to track workers; understanding changes to the job role with the implementation of new technology; managing the change process; understanding the effects of fatigue and shiftwork.
