Cognitive Neuroscience

Course aim

To further develop students’ understanding of the neural underpinnings of cognition and behaviour and to provide practical laboratory based experience of the application of this knowledge.

Course content

In this course students will further develop their knowledge of contemporary cognitive neuroscience (including the human nervous system, neural physiology, imaging techniques, the visual system, sensory processing and perception, the motor system, attention and executive function, memory, language, emotion and social cognition, states of consciousness, child brain and cognitive development, and aging). Students will also develop research and laboratory skills and will apply these skills in the preparation of a research report.

Prerequisite(s)

Bachelor of Psychology students are required to have completed the listed prerequisites plus one Level 2 psychology course. Students completing the Cognitive Neuroscience minor only need to complete the specified prerequisite courses.
