Course aim

To deepen students understanding of key developments in twentieth-century Australian history and the processes leading to contemporary nationalism.

Course content

Post WWI society; The great depression; Politics and Aboriginal activism; WWII, Assimilation policies; The white Australia policy; Post-War immigration and the birth of multiculturalism; The cold war; the Korean War; International relations; The ‘swinging’ sixties; Vietnam War; Influences from the USA; The Whitlam Government and the double dissolution; Capitalism, greed and the fall of the stockmarket; America’s Cup; The bicentennial; The impact of technology; Globalisation.
