Course aim

To continue to develop students’ in-depth understanding of structural principles in reinforced concrete structures and pre-stressed concrete structures. To develop students’ skills of analysis and design in modern concrete structures. To introduce students to computer packages commonly used in concrete structural design.

Course content

Overview of prestressed concrete design including materials, serviceability, flexure, shear and losses. Design of post-tensioned one-way and two-way slabs. Construction technology for prestressed concrete.
Strut and tie modelling. Plastic design of concrete frames.
