Course aim

To enable students to demonstrate the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) registered nurse standards for practice, in the provision of nursing care across the contexts of nursing practice (primary, secondary and tertiary health environments).

Course content

Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Registered Nurse Standards for Practice; NMBA code of ethics; code of conduct for nurses; National Safety and Quality Health Standards inclusive of the Medication Safety Standard and Aged Care Quality Standards; clinical assessment and clinical decision making; care planning; therapeutic intervention; safe and quality use of medications; evaluating, monitoring and management of person centered nursing care; professional communication and documentation; client/patient partnerships in care; health education and health promotion strategies; professional communication and behaviours; management and leadership; evidenced based practice; cultural safety; Aboriginal health: mental health; legal and ethical considerations for provision of care and documentation.
