Course aim

To enable students to demonstrate knowledge, skills and attitudes consistent with professional standards in the provision of acute nursing care.

Course content

Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) professional standards and codes; National Safety and Quality Health Services Standards inclusive of Medication Safety Standard; clinical assessment and decision making; care planning; therapeutic intervention; safe and quality use of medications; evaluating, monitoring and management of person centered nursing care; infection control; professional and ; inter-professional communication, teamwork and consumer directed care; documentation, health informatics and electronic health records; client/patient partnerships in care; health education and health promotion strategies; professional communication and behaviours; evidenced based practice; cultural safety; Aboriginal health: mental health; legal and ethical considerations for provision of care and documentation.
