Course aim

To introduce students to basic skills and concepts utilised in the social sciences.

Course content

This course provides an overview of the discipline of sociology in an Australian context. The course examines the nature of inequality along the lines of class, gender, race and ethnicity as well as social institutions such as the state, family and marriage, education and healthcare in Australia. The course also considers the impact of the technological changes on Australian society and as well as the contemporary environmental problems that we are facing.
