Course aim

To provide students with vocational experience in the visual arts industry through a placement within an arts or cultural organisation to develop student research and writing skills and strengthen interpersonal skills.

Course content

The Industry Internship places students in specific institutional frameworks such as an art/craft gallery, arts organisation or artist studio for a specified period of time within a 13 week Study Period. The internship will commence with a series of tutorials / seminars to acquaint the students with the arts industry in general and the host institution/s in particular. This will be followed by the placement (the internship proper) that will normally take place for a period of 4 – 8 wks comprising 1 – 2 days per week under the joint supervision of the host institution and the academic coordinator. Students will undertake a project or specific research task/s to be determined by the host institution and the academic supervisor. Every effort will be made to match projects and host institutions with student’s interests and preferences. Students are expected to produce a report at the end of the study period on a topic related to their internship. On completion of the placement students will produce a report that documents and evaluates the project / task(s) undertaken.
