To advance students understanding of the law in relation to domestic relationships, the family and the workplace.
Students will develop advanced knowledge of legislation and its application to marriage and dissolution of marriage in Australia and the role of the Family Court and the effects of marriage and defacto relationships on rights to property, income maintenance and children’s matters including the rights of children, child abuse and the removal of children from parental custody.
Students will develop advanced knowledge of the application of legislation in the workplace and conflicts between employees and management, the Industrial Commission, other legal entities and Unions, the rights of employees and employers.
Students will further their knowledge of domestic violence and workplace harassment, powers of restraint and criminal and civil liability.
Students will develop skills in analysis of the interaction between mediation processes, other alternative dispute resolution approaches, litigation and legislative frameworks as they relate to marriage dissolution and workplace conflicts.
