To provide students with the knowledge of the sociological and psychological aspects of food behaviour and consumption; and introduce students to the fundamental principles of public health and health promotion theory and the theoretical knowledge concerning communication theory and effective communication with different cultural and social groups.
This course covers the principles of public health nutrition and relevant national and international public health examples. The sociological and psychological aspects of food and nutrition and the factors that influence food selection, including cultural, ethnic, and environmental. An introduction to counselling theory and its practical application. Students will be introduced to the concept and meaning of ethical practice and its application to dietetic practice within the context of public health, health promotion and counselling.
