Course aim

To develop students' competence in applying design principles, processes, strategies and practices to a variety of design projects that address issues of social and ecological sustainability in contemporary contexts.

Course content

Students will develop knowledge of design processes: physical, cultural, ethical and economic issues integrated with creativity in designing for ecological responsibility. Students will gain skills in design strategies: materials selection, structures and technical requirements, design function, use, social sustainability.  Students will develop skills in design research including identification and problem framing, interpreting and rewriting a project proposal, communication, frameworks for project work, presentation, liaison and consultation. Students will participate in collaboration with industry and/or interdisciplinary academic groups.
