Course aim

To introduce students to the process of designing products by building upon their theoretical knowledge of design principles and adding the practical skills to design within design constraints. To progress students' drawing skills to include colour rendering, and their model making skills to include fabrication techniques through simple material manipulation.

Course content

In this course students apply their theoretical knowledge of design principles to develop testable outcomes learning to base creative decision making on design criteria, including structural considerations and human factors.

They will progress their design drawing skills to include colour, tone and more detailed descriptive drawing; and further their three dimensional modelling skills through an introduction to new material manipulation. In addition, they will add to their design process skills with the introduction of scenario-based design methodology toward innovative form and functional solutions.
