To introduce students to the basics of engineering drawing and to develop the skills and knowledge of geometry and projection techniques for the creation and interpretation of technical drawings.
The students will develop basic knowledge of geometric principles and construction of basic shapes including compass constructions of geometric figures, angles and tangents. They will be introduced to the use of trigonometry for spatial problem solving, orthogonal projection techniques focused on 3rd angle orthographic projection and conventions including the use of sections, auxiliary views and developments for prisms, cylinders and cones. They will also be introduced to basic conventions and principles of engineering drawing and dimensioning conventions and principles and be introduced to Australian Standard AS1100.
The students will use technical communication skills to create geometric figures, represent objects in orthogonal projection and to create engineering drawings to communicate dimension and form.
