The aim of this course is to consolidate student knowledge gained on all previous courses. Through a capstone experience that requires them to work closely with their colleagues over a nine-month period students will learn how to identify resource requirements (e.g. hardware, software, people, facilities, data, elements of support) for the generation and synthesis of a competitive and integrated solution to a complex military/engineering system-of-systems problem. They will learn how to apply systems engineering principles in a manner commensurate with iterative evaluation of evidence-based assessments, analyses, and trade-off studies so that they are able to provide quantitative feedback to the basic process and phases of design and review in order to ensure engineering convergence to their solution.
Under the guidance of industry and academic supervision appropriate systems engineering processes, concepts and techniques are applied to support the design of a major new military/engineering capability. Students design a competitive system/product that meets requirements laid down in the (Preliminary) Operational Concept Document (P-OCD/OCD) provided to students in SIP 1 and EPEP.
