Students will explore and reflect upon the factors influencing the role of the nurse practitioner in delivering an evidence-based health and/or community service to specific clients, residents or population groups.
Critical thinking – personal reflection on attributes, establishing e-portfolio for ongoing use. Frameworks influencing practice – health care system, legislation, professional standards, national policies, specific populations and national health priorities, models of care, funding models and mechanisms, medical benefits scheme, pharmaceutical benefits scheme, prescribing responsibilities, health insurance requirements, provider numbers, indemnity and business management, ABN. Level of practice – theoretical underpinnings, extended and specialised nursing scope of practice, private practice models, team practice; Issues and perspectives – marketing, business models, promotional materials; Clinical governance; Professional efficacy – professional identity and authority, accountability and responsibility, referral and collaboration; Clinical leadership, mentoring. Health informatics, e-health, electronic health records and forms, SNOMED (Standardised Nomenclature of Medicine), Australian Medicines Terminology; Innovations and technology, technology assessment.
