Course aim

To develop an awareness of the range and scope of issues pertaining to management and professional practice
in the field of information management and services.

Course content

Management theories and skills for information agencies including: organisation and management theories;
marketing, strategic planning and evaluation of services, including information services; designing policies and programs; human resource management; job design; team management; leadership; change management; conflict resolution; financial management; and management of buildings and equipment. Contribution of information to a democratic society; impact of current issues and legislation on information work, such as: censorship, privacy, freedom of information, intellectual property; professional ethics and social responsibility. Digital divide; information equity; information literacy and lifelong learning; information management education and training; careers for information managers; value of information management and records for preservation; Community expectations, governance frameworks and the ways the business environment creates and maintains records and information.
