Course aim

To introduce students to legislation and codes that underpin Physiotherapy Practice in Australia and to provide students with foundation concepts of human biomechanics and the application of this theory to human movement, exercise, safe manual handling and gait aid prescription and selected physical examination techniques.

Course content

Physiotherapy Practice Thresholds in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, Physiotherapy codes of conduct, legislation governing physiotherapy practice in Australia, Kinematics and kinetics of human movement. Gravity, equilibrium, forces, levers, the role of muscles in normal movement and in exercise therapy, biomechanics of biological tissue, effect of loading. Application of biomechanical principles to safe manual handling, physical assessment techniques, and gait aid prescription.
