Course aim

The aim of this course is to provide students with foundation knowledge and skills for evidence based practice in health sciences.

Course content

This course is designed to develop foundation knowledge and skills in evidence based practice in health sciences and includes: philosophy and conflicts related to the best available research evidence as defined within the evidence based practice paradigm, accessing electronic databases, common hierarchies for research evidence, assumptions underpinning quantitative and qualitative approaches and the relationship with the concept of best available research evidence, basic research methodologies for quantitative and qualitative approaches including key aspects of study design, sampling, data collection, analysis and research rigour.
