Course aim

This course aims To develop the student in the practice of clinical pharmacy and therapeutics integrating
skills and knowledge to enable the pharmacist to make rational decisions regarding a patient’s drug
management.

Course content

Pathophysiology and treatment of various disease state modules Specific modules taught in Advanced Pharmacotherapeutics 4 are: geriatrics, paediatrics, respiratory diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, complementary medicines, renal disorders, dermatological disorders, ophthalmological diseases and pharmacogenetics. The course will also involve the application of evidence based medicine to practice identifying benefits and limitations to the population as a whole and the individual patient. Pharmacotherapy instruction will include dosage calculations, adverse reactions, drug interactions, relevant pharmacokinetics, alternative therapies and monitoring parameters.
