Course aim

To build students’ understandings of a socio-cultural model of language and literacy practices. Students understand what learners need to do to be effective readers and writers. Students explore effective strategies for teaching, planning and assessing reading and viewing, writing, listening and speaking.

Course content

Reading and writing practices; reading and writing development; aspects of reading including phonological awareness, phonics, comprehending and critical literacy; aspects of writing including grammar, spelling, handwriting and genre; texts and reading and writing resources for the R-7 English program; teaching strategies for reading and writing; reading and wriitng assessment, planning for reading and writing.
