To introduce students to the fundamentals of geodetic reference systems, positional astronomy, physical geodesy and gravity models for the Earth.
Geodetic and astronomical reference systems. Introduction to geodetic control networks. Height systems and geoid definition. Orthometric corrections to spirit levelling.
Advanced ellipsoidal computations. Redfearns and Robbins formulae. Long line EDM reductions.
Azimuth determination by solar and stellar methods. Trigonometrical heighting.
Elementary potential theory and gravity. Geoid-ellipsoid separations, gravity anomalies, elementary earth and sea tides.
