Course aim

To introduce students to the role of the Professional Building Surveyor in both the private and public sectors as well as in the Australian and international contexts. To undertake more complex design and engineering assessments involving the use of performance based scientific principles and to give the students a knowledge base in building failures and defects, their manifestation, causes and repair.

Course content

Statutory building control, certification (both private and government), compliance with fire engineering and construction codes. Performance assessment of design and engineering solutions using scientific method principles. Specific services and skills required in relation to proposed and existing buildings and developments, e.g. approvals and certifications, dilapidation reports, technical due diligence inspections, defect identification and repair, fire safety upgrades, change of use, appraisal and valuation, space utilisation.
